HWH Group Completes Site Selection for $30 Million Pet Food Plant

Paris, Texas; September 23, 2015:  HWH Group, the site selection and incentives unit of Harrison, Walker & Harper, completed a national site selection process in September that will locate a new $30 million production facility in Abilene, Texas for client Prairie Dog Pet Products.  HWH Group is also serving as New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) consultant for the project, and anticipates closing on that portion of the financing package in late October.

Ira Goldfarb, owner of Prairie Dog Pet Products, cited local business sector and community support in announcing the decision to locate in Abilene.  He added, “Abilene is a high growth region located in a state that truly embraces business.  That was very attractive to us in our decision-making process.”  The company expects to bring 215 new jobs with an annual payroll of $7 million to the area, plus a net benefit to local tax districts of $4.4 million over the first ten years.  Goldfarb noted that the new facility will be the key U.S. manufacturing center for the company, and will include headquarters activities such as corporate finance, customer support and sales.

A U.S. company founded in 2007, Prairie Dog Pet Products is an industry innovator capitalizing on the strong market for premium quality, all natural pet treats.  It utilizes only pure, 100 percent domestic farm-raised meats and naturally shed or harvested antlers in its products.  The American Pet Products Association (APPA) estimates that Americans will spend $60.59 billion on their pets in 2015, more than triple the amount spent 20 years ago.

HWH Group Vice President Robbie Ruminer commented that the nine-month review of potential sites encompassed 14 states and 85 locations, with 22 in Texas alone.  He added that the total amount of incentives captured will exceed $14 million, and called the results “a big win all around, for a committed client and forward-looking community investing together for the future.”
