Positive Tomorrows to increase enrollment capacity and services
Paris, Texas: National site selection and consulting firm, The HWH Group, served Positive Tomorrows with the structuring and recent closing of the federal New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program. NMTCs played a pivotal role in the $15 million project by offsetting a significant funding gap in the project budget and in leveraging additional private donations of the Oklahoma City community.
Positive Tomorrows has a current capacity of 74 students and serves approximately 123 children annually. Due to capacity constraints, the school consistently turns students away. The project includes the new construction of a larger primary school facility to double current capacity. A much-needed middle school and gymnasium will also be added, and would not have been possible without the NMTC program.
“We are so grateful for the support of Harrison, Walker & Harper in closing our NMTC’s,” said Susan Agel, President and Principal at Positive Tomorrows. “These credits make it possible for us to build our dream school, and that will change the lives of some of the most vulnerable children and families in our community for years to come.”
Additionally, the new campus will have space for art, music, special education, a library, and outdoor learning spaces. Wrap-around services include transportation, clothing, meals for families, family and individual counseling and housing assistance. In the 2016-17 school year, 77% of families served improved or maintained stable housing.
“The New Markets Tax Credit’s sole purpose is to make communities stronger,” said Scott Dewald, REI Oklahoma President and CEO. “This school project certainly meets that objective.”
“MetaFund is extremely excited to be a part of this project and can’t wait to see the finished product and lives changed.” Sarah Reed, MetaFund CFO & EVP.
The project and the NMTC program will ensure Positive Tomorrows will provide critical services to children in need for many years into the future.
